【EN】4-5 The Master said, “Riches and honors are what men desire. If one doesn’t obtain them in the proper way, they could not be held. Poverty and meanness are what men dislike. If one doesn’t obtain them in the proper way, they could not be avoided. If a superior man abandon virtue, how can he fulfill the requirements of that name? The superior man does not, in the duration of a single meal, act contrary to virtue. If he wants to make great accomplishment, he must cleave to it. If he wants to survive the danger, he must cleave to it.”

【EN】4-6 The Master said, “I have not seen those who love virtue hate those who are not virtuous. Those who love virtue, would esteem nothing above it, and it will become their only rule. Even if they hate those who are not virtuous, as they practice virtue, they would not allow others being traited or considered as non virtuous. Is anyone able for one day to apply his strength to virtue? I have not seen the case in which his strength would be insufficient. Should there possibly be any such case, I have not seen it.”
